EXPECTATIONS & REALITY

Teaching in SURM has been nothing but pleasant. Honestly, I came in with an intention to impart knowledge and thought that the group of students in SURM would be similar to those I had taught before. However, when I met the students and saw how reserved and unsure some were despite their varied abilities and background, I felt that I had to do something. I felt that I needed to help them out of their shells and blossom into more confident and decisive students. This spurred me on to do more for SURM.

Along the way, I met different types of students. Some are extremely grumpy and getting them to smile was definitely a chore, a special few are annoyingly talkative but sweet and of course there are those who make my heart flutter with their sincerity in their interactions with me.

My vision is to continue to be a part of the team in producing Huffaz who are professional individuals in future. They will be armed with Quranic knowledge and become experts in their desired fields. I have always believed that SURM is a unique school and being a student here will not deter my students from their goals. Whoever they want to be, they should strive for it; whether they be a scientist who is a Hafiz or a murabbi who is a Hafizah.

Definitely, the path they have taken here is different than those in other schools and that is why SURM is unique. Students here spend their mornings dedicated to memorizing the Quran and the rest of the day learning secular and Islamic subjects. This is unlike those in other Madrasahs and National schools whose Quran memorisation may just be a subject. In this school, I believe that we should dare to be different and dare to dream in achieving our desired goals. However, there will always be challenges and no school is perfect but with the cooperation from the students, teachers and parents, we can all play our part to ensure that we produce professional Huffaz in the near future, In Shaa Allah!
