As a human being living on this Earth, one has no choice but to face many challenges. Everyone has their own struggles but at the end of the day, it is how one chooses to deal and overcome them that makes him different from the rest. The same concept applies when it comes to memorising the Quran. Most Huffazul Quran (memorisers of The Quran) would agree that although the journey of memorising is bittersweet, it is one that they cherish very much.
Among the struggles of memorising the Holy Quran is inevitably having constrained time. Unlike tahfiz students in Malaysia, SURM students are unable to make full use of their time as they do not stay in hostels, or what the Malays call asrama. Staying in a hostel helps the students stay focused as they do not get as distracted as they would be when they’re at home. This, however, also depends on the discipline and motivation of the student.
Aside from that, the students also have to be consistent in taking care of their hearts into which they insert the words of the Holy Quran. In order to ensure that their heart is pure, they must be first take care of what they see and watch with their eyes. In this current age and day, taking care of one’s eyes is difficult as one is always surrounded with possibility of accidentally looking at sinful things. A simple example would be when girls wear provocatively in public. To overcome this, the students has to be consistent in lowering their gaze wherever they go.
Despite the numerous challenges, all Huffazul Quran would agree that for the love of the Quran, nothing is hard or impossible. When they put in effort & are patient, SURM students are able to overcome these challenges. They also heed their asatizahs’ advices which are given in order to help them excel. With wise advices and guidance from the asatizahs, the students aim to succeed both in this world and hereafter, insyaAllah.
