When setting out on a noble journey to memorize the entire Holy Qur'an, a child may feel pressured and give up along the way. However, just like how a roof shelters or completes a house, family support for the aspiring Hafiz can help him overcome such obstacles. Not only will the child become motivated from the support of the family, they, the parents in particular, will also be able to look into the refreshing lifestyle of a Haafizul Qur’an.
First and foremost, a step that parents of an aspiring Hafiz can take is helping the child create a daily timetable and ensure that they follow it. This will enable the child to spend their time wisely and they will also be able memorise their Qur'an without being distracted with other activities at home, such as doing chores or watching the television. Parents can reward them if they have fulfilled their task or achieved their goals at the end of the day. This will help to further motivate them.
Parents can also help to monitor their child's progress throughout their memorisation journey, so should the child lose motivation or interest at any point, the parents can step in and aid them back onto the right track. As a way to motivate the child further, parents may also try bringing them to Qur'an related programmes, such as meeting an inspiring Qari like Mishary ar-Rashid during his visit to Singapore.
At home, parents may also allocate a special area in the house to their child in which they are not allowed to hold on their mobile devices and nobody else in the family is allowed to talk to them until they are done with their memorisation. This will allow them to fully focus on their Qur'an without any distractions from their siblings, their electronic gadgets or the TV.
It is advised that parents of these potential Haafizul Quran continuously make Doa for them so that their journey is eased and their Qur'an memorization is filled with barakah.
Parents are also advised to make it a habit to let their child see the glass half full, meaning that from now, they can already see themselves as a future Hafiz with the potential of leading themselves and the people around them to Jannatul Firdaus, insyaAllah.
